Gardening / Planting in the fine weather

This fine weather has everyone out gardening and planting in the West of Ireland. With the fresh vegetables like potatoes, carrots and cabbage planted, lets hope we can sample some of these home grown delights very soon 🙂

Purple Wild Flowers

Purple wild flowers growing in a grass ditch in Commauns, Burren, Castlebar, Co. Mayo, Ireland.  If you look closely at this shot you will see that there is actually is actually a fly on one of the flowers which i didn’t notice at the time 🙂 It is called Herb Robert

Is it a bird? Is it a plane?

Small airplane flying round quite low in the sky in Commauns, Burren, Castlebar, Co. Mayo, Ireland on May 2nd 2012. Not really sure if it was flying lessons or not, but something different to photograph 🙂

Yellow Daffodils

Photographs of Yellow Daffodils taken in Castlebar, Co. Mayo.

The peom by William Wordsworth “I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud” is also known as Daffodils or The Daffodils.

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o’er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Commauns

Orange sunset in the country

They say “Red sky at night; shepherds delight, Red sky in the morning; shepherds warning”

I’m not quite sure what they say for an orange sky but I’m sure it’s something along the same lines.  These are a little bit different with the point of focus on the bare trees rather than on the windmills, I feel it gives the shots a different feel. Hope you like them…. Taken in Commauns, Co. Mayo, Ireland.

Rusty Fence

A bit of a different look at a rusty old fence in the Irish countryside in the West of Ireland, looking the sky and fields like you are in a cage

Orange Lilies

Originally, orange lilies meant disdain, hatred and wealth. Perhaps that may sound strange but in ancient times, there were wealthy families that were cruel to poor families and many of these rich families had orange lilies in their gardens. People started associating the lilies with how much they hated the nasty, wealthy folks. With time, the perception of orange lilies began changing because the orange lily spread all over the world via trade routes.

Fox Glove

Wild Fox Glove flowers in Commauns, Castlebar, Co. Mayo. If you look closely at the first photo you can see a bee collecting his nectar unfortunately I wasn’t quick enough with my snap to catch him in full view. Taken August 2011
